You are considering knee replacement surgery

  • Knee replacement surgery can be very effective, but it is not for everyone.
  • This is a decision aid to help you choose whether you should talk to your surgeon about knee replacement surgery now.
  • If you choose not to have surgery now, you may have it later if your circumstances change.
  • You can re-use this decision aid at any time.

The information in this decision aid is intended to support your personal decision to choose non-surgical management, or knee replacement surgery. We will ask questions about what therapies you have already tried, what is most important to you when considering surgery, and provide personalized comparison groups to help you decide.

The Decision Aid will also ask you seven recall questions at the end. These questions will ask about your understanding of osteoarthritis, the risks and benefits of knee replacement surgery, and how people like you get better or worse after their knee replacement surgery. We will provide all this information to you in the following pages. Getting these questions wrong will not change your ability to meet with your surgeon or have surgery.
